Bang Klam Floating Market Songkhla

Thursday, June 28, 2018

The newest floating market in Songkhla opens last January 2018. Bang Klam Floating Market is located at Bang Klam, Bang Klam District, Songkhla. Google Map click here. It is not a famous tourist destination in Songkhla since it just open a few months ago. Opens on weekend only, Saturday and Sunday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon to 9 in the evening and closes from Monday to Friday. It's 16 kilometers from the city of Hatyai and 30 minutes travel time.

They have both cemented and muddy parking lot for vehicles for free. They also have free tables and bench around. The public toilet is free and clean. You can also set the mat on the ground. You can barrow the mat in the shop on the left side of the entrance, it's free but you need to return it to them after using it. They are very kind to us, we thought that we need to rent a mat but it's free and that makes us so happy.

Unlike other floating market, there are no vendors selling food on the boat. They have shops and food stalls line up. The place is beautiful and clean. They have a lot of local foods available around and others are selling fresh vegetables, fishes, seafood, and fruits too. The food is not expensive here. You can buy rice for 10 baht only, noodle for 20 baht per serving and chicken BBQ, 3 for 20 baht. They are environmentally friendly because they are using paper plates instead of styrofoam.

There is a bookshop where you can rent a book if you want to read but I am not sure if English books are available. There is also a shop that sells figurines for the children to enjoy painting it that comes at different sizes and prices. The bigger the figurine is the more it's expensive but the cheapest figurine is 20 baht, the smallest one. You can ride a boat here for 100 baht each person and a minimum of 700 baht per boat ride.

Since it's a newly opened floating market, they are still continuously developing the place but it is worth to visit. There are still vacant shops around and the crowd is not as many as Khlong Hae Floating Market and Ban Phru Floating Market. When we went there, we are happy that the place is not so crowded although not so quiet. They have a mini stage in the middle where a local band plays Thai mellow music. It has a panoramic view of Bangklam river and the sunset on the east.

The shops here open at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on weekend but the best time to come here is late in the afternoon because there aren't many trees around so it's hot here on a sunny afternoon. Lay your mat, take a small table while enjoying your food under the sunset. Don't forget to throw all your garbage in the bin to help them on keeping this place clean.

This Rope Bridge Conservatory Eco-tourism attraction is near the Bang Klam Floating Market. It is worthy to come here and take photos. You can google map it click here.  The bridge seems so strong and a motorcycle can even pass here. I visited this footbridge twice bringing different friends with me.
