Kaeng Nam Hu Rae is located at Tha Maduea, Bang Kaeo District, Phatthalung. Google map click here. One of the tourist destinations in Phatthalung Thailand. It is better to use the GPS to come here. It is 75 Kilometers from the city of Hatyai and less than 2 hours of traveling. It is quite far from the main road. This river restaurant is open for 24 hours but the restaurant around here will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is a quite famous place and some tourist who visits Phatthalung province visits here too.
The river has a lot of wooden and made of steel cottages and the wooden aisle will take you to the cottages. Be careful in taking steps going to the cottages, don't trust the wooden aisles. It's getting wet always so it's slippery and some of them are broken and other parts are rotting.
You can bring your own food here but you also need to buy food in the restaurant or in food stalls to support them for taking care of these place. The water is moving slowly or normally and it is not deep. While having your snacks, lunch or early dinner here, you can soak your feet to feel the coldness of the water. The children can enjoy swimming too, so its good for a family outing. The river is not deep so the children are safe to swim. They are selling some things for swimming too. The water in the river is cold, crystal clear and clean.
The place is breezy and has a good atmosphere for relaxing. A lot of locals come here on lunch break and late afternoon. The place is quite crowded, especially on weekend. They don't have a proper parking space so just park your car anywhere. We had trouble parking our car since a lot of locals and tourist come here. We parked our car in a muddy place and under the rubber trees.
They serve local foods and it is cheap. The price is right but the service is quite slow. Maybe they have a lot of orders in queues. They are also slow in cleaning up the cottages after eating. Most of the time it takes more than an hour before they get all the dirty dishes in the cottage. The restaurant itself is quite messy. It is muddy here so avoid wearing shoes or heels. Wearing comfortable slippers are advisable.
The best time to come here is on summer or any time. Perhaps avoid the heavy rainy season as the restaurant lies on the river so it is not advisable to dine in the cottages if the water in the river is running rapidly. In Thailand, heavy rain happens from November to early January.
