They recently renovated this place to be one of the tourist destinations in Songkhla. The Khao Kao Saeng Temple is located at Chalathat, Bo Yang, Mueang Songkhla District, Songkhla. Google map click here. This is one of the tourist's destinations in Songkhla Thailand.
Before this temple has a lot of dogs which makes a few locals come here. But now, they renovated this place and enhance the facilities. More and more locals and tourist-visited this place. The temple is visible from afar since they built it on the top of the mountain.
The place is relaxing, quiet and clean. I still saw a few dogs around but they are harmful and friendly to the visitors. There are shops where you can buy some snacks. They have free concrete big cottages around that is good for recreational activities. They have also free benches and tables around. It's a place for the Buddist believer to pray. It is a temple so where something decent. They have a wide parking lot for cars and motorcycles. The road to get here is slope and narrow so I guess a double-decker bus can't get to the top.
The place has an extraordinary rock formation. The rocks were really big. You can even climb to the top of the rock. They added a wooden stairway to go around easily. The wooden stairways make the place more beautiful. It is best to come here early in the morning to witness the beautiful sunrise. This place is open 24 hours a day.
You can visit any time of the day because the place is shady. You can rest or relax under these trees but the way to the rock mountain is too hot. The sunshine reflects the rocky ground that makes it hotter. So for me, it is better to come here late in the afternoon to see the picturesque coastline of Songkhla. There are more locals and tourists come here in the late afternoon.
There is a story behind this place. If you are interested to read click here. I have read this tale of "Nai Raeng" in the printed tarpaulin displayed in near the parking lot. It is quite an important tale for the people of Songkhla.

In reference to Songkhla Annals, around B.E. (1859). King Mongut (King Rama IV) paid a royal visit to Khao Kao Saen. So, Khao Kao Saen is quite an important place in history and nature. It has been developed partially with a supportive budget from Tourism Authority of Thailand for its landscape.
