Laem Son On Naga head Songkhla

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Laem Son On Naga or the dragon head is located at Bo Yang, Mueang Songkhla District, Songkhla. It's open 24 hours a day. Google map click here.  This dragon structure was divided into 3 parts. The body is at Sculpture Garden Chaloem Phrakiat. It's a park with a small lake not far from here. The tail sculpture was displayed in Samila beach near Tinasulanon Stadium and in front of Chalatat Beach. This is one of the famous tourist destinations in Songkhla.

The Naga head symbolizes wisdom and intelligence. It was built last 2007 and since then considered to be the main attraction of Songkla. Many of locals and tourist compared it to the Merlion of Singapore. It's a Merlion version of southern Thailand. It uses solar power energy for the sculpture to continuously splashing of water and lightning at night. It is worthy to visit and feels like your in Singapore 😊. Well, it has a beauty of its own. It's good for sight-seeing and picture taking.

There is a huge parking lot for vehicles. There are also shops around here for your meals and snacks. I love to buy the ice cream in a coconut shell here. The ice cream with a lot of toppings and with a chocolate or strawberry syrup. It's very cheap for a 30 baht that comes with a small glass of coconut water.

I have seen some locals here, relaxing under the shade of a tree. Some even have their fishing rod and a portable chair under the pine trees. It's also a place to worship which can bring good luck, wealth, fertility and prosperity.

Avoid coming here on a hot sunny day. The best time to come here is late in the afternoon or when the sun is out. The place is clean and well maintained. The atmosphere in the evening is great with more locals coming and many more street vendors at night. The Naga Head is powered by Solar Energy.
