The biggest and the grandest mosque in Southern Thailand is located at Lupbori Ramesuan Road Hatyai Songkhla Thailand. It's the main road that connects, Phathalung, Hatyai and Songkhla Road. Google map click here. The Songkhla Central Grand Mosque is on the left side of the main road going to Songkhla. It is quite far from the city of Hatyai. Although it is not a tourist's destination in Hatyai and Songkhla but a mosque, many tourists come here to take a look. The Songkhla Central Mosque has a similarity or it looks like the Taj Mahal of India. Not because of its mosque structure but because of its long big pond in front of the grand mosque.
The view is fantastic. If you can't afford to go to India and visit the famous Taj Mahal. Then you should not miss this place. It feels like I also went to Taj Mahal. But of course, nothing beats the original. I want to visit the famous Taj Mahal in India too, someday. But for now, I will just enjoy and adore the beauty of the Songkhla. Central Grand Mosque.
It's very big that this place is still under construction. It's a place for Muslims to pray. I didn't get inside the grand mosque but they said that it has three levels with that main prayer hall on the topmost and parking lot at the bottom. There are offices and a school on the second floor. The prayer hall is open air with natural ventilation the biggest so far in terms of the floor area.
For us travelers, it's a place for taking pictures and sight-seeing. There is a big parking lot around. There are no vendors around for it is not a park. But I have seen some locals who do picnic here in the late afternoon. They just lay their mat and seat there. Trying to kill the time. A group of birds keepers with their birds were there. You can take a photo with their colorful birds for free. But they have a donation box if you want to donate on them. It's quite fun but scary for me also. The birds seem friendly to human. They are well-trained birds.
The best time to come here is late in the afternoon. When the sun is out. The place has a few trees so it is very hot on a sunny day. Avoid coming here on a hot day if you are just here to take pictures and go around. If you are here to pray the prayer room is open from 5:30 in the morning to 8:30 in the evening.
While in the late afternoon around 4 in the afternoon, a lot of locals and tourists come here and take pictures. The place is still under construction so no lights around the pond. It is quite dark near the big pond. It is not good for you to come here at night if you just here for sight-seeing.
