Bon Khao Restaurant is located inside Hatyai Municipal Park. It is a restaurant located on Khohong Hills and in the middle of the forest. They are open starting 10:00 o'clock in the morning and close at 10:00 in the evening. If you are new in Hatyai and don't really know where is it. You can find it on Google Map click here. Google map will help you which road to take but if you ride a tuk-tuk, they will send you there and wait for you after you finish eating. You can negotiate with the tuk-tuk driver, perhaps 300 to 400 baht.
What's good in the restaurant?
The view of course. It is so nice to eat in this restaurant while enjoying the food and the scenery. It is on the hill so overlooking Hatyai City. We came here late in the afternoon. Around 4:30 pm just before the sunset. But the food takes longer to serve, we waited for more than 30 minutes while having ice cream for 45 to 90 baht per small cups. They also serve our chocolate drinks 60 baht per glass.
While waiting we took pictures and enjoy the sunset. The same view you will see when you are standing at the Phra Phutthamongkol Mahatat the difference is the ambiance. It is really good to dine in a fancy restaurant while watching the sunset. You can't find any place in Hatyai and Songkhla as beautiful as this. I mean the scenery is amazingly beautiful.
After 30 minutes of waiting. Finally, our food arrived. They serve Internation and Thai cuisine here. They can at least communicate in English. The menu itself has an English Translation so you won't find it hard to communicate with the stuff. The food here is delicious and expensive. The steamed fish that we order is 180 baht and the mix vegetables is 100 baht per serve.
This restaurant is not Halal. They offer pork, chicken, beef, fish, and seafood in there menu. We ordered two kinds of dishes, 3 cups of rice, 2 cups of ice cream and 2 glasses of chocolate drinks. I thought it won't be more than 500 baht but to my surprise, I paid 775 baht. I tried to look at the check but it was written in Thai so I let it slide perhaps they also added some service charge. It's Ok, I just think that I also pay for the place and the scenery too 😊.
Overall it is a good place to dine while watching the scenery. The best time to come here is late in the afternoon to witness the sunset. The place is really popular and it is crowded late in the afternoon. Locals usually reserve a place in an open terrace. If there is no more space on the terrace, you can sit at the back or on the ground floor.
The terrace is the best part of the restaurant. If you can't get a reservation, come at 4:30 in the afternoon. People usually arrive past 6:00 o'clock in the evening where the sunset happens. Order an ice cream first while waiting for your food.
