My 90 Days Notice in Thailand is Overdue

Monday, November 12, 2018

A lot of documents that need to be done when you are planning on living in Thailand for a long time. After you done getting a visa and work permit. You are obliged to report to immigration every 90 days. You have 15 days before the date of your 90 days and extended up to 7 days after. But, what will happen if you forget to do it and your  90 days was long overdue?

Just like me, I forget my 90 days and failed to do it on time. I was riding a songtaew going to Songkhla for my tutorial class and I was reading the warning sign inside the songtaew it says "speed limit is 90 kph". I was shocked to remember that last month I didn't do my 90 days report at the immigration office. I was so down that I don't have the energy to do my tutorial class.  So, I stop the songtaew to drop me and I ride songtaew again going back home. I was so depressed because I know I'll have to pay the fine.

The next day, I went to the Immigration Office and do my 90 days. The in-charge notice that I am 12 days late for my 90 days. She asked me that I need to pay 2000 baht. I tried to talk to her and ask for a discount but she said that the overdue fined is fixed to 2000 baht and that they will give me a receipt for that. I don't have a choice but to pay.

I paid and while waiting for my documents to finish the process, I met 2 Filipinos there doing their 90 days. One of them approached me first and asked me what happen. So, I told them that I am waiting for my documents to be done and that I paid 2000 baht for the fines of failure to report on time for my 90 days. The other guy told me that his girlfriend also was 1 month overdue and he said she will just tear it and tell the immigration officer that she lost her 90 days notice.

I asked him back if her girlfriend already done that thing. He said that his girlfriend is planning to do something like that because she is 1-month overstay. I told him, I won't do something like that, I will just pay the fine and I won't do something stupid that will make my problem more complicated. What if the immigration officer caught you then another problem will arise. But if you just pay the fine then everything will be Okay. I read somewhere in the blog online that if they caught you that you lost the 90 days notice on purpose because you failed to report on time. They will let you pay 5000 baht.

Don't do something stupid, we should follow the rules because we aren't in our own country. We are living in the foreign land that required us to have a Visa and some laws to follow. Always remember to alarm your phone so you won't forget your 90 days report to the immigration office. I will do the same and I make it sure to report in advance before the date 90 days notice.
