Khao Mok Kai is a famous dish in Thailand that often serve in any occasions. Literally it means "rice covered chicken" in English. A lot of restaurants offer have this in their menu. It's a Muslim food and it originated in Malaysia. Khao Mok Kai or Kao Mok Gai is like Chicken Biryani of Malaysia. Thai people adopted it and make their own Thai version of Chicken Biryani.
In the Thai language translated to English, "khao" means "rice", "mok" means "steam" and "kai" means "chicken". So, "Khao Mok Kai" means "steam rice and chicken". This dish is very healthy since the main ingredients of this dish is curcumin or turmeric powder extract.
It's the curcumin or turmeric powder extract that makes the rice and the chicken turn into a yellowish in color. It is often served with crispy fried shallots (garlic) and sliced cucumber with a hot sauce if you prefer spicy food. I usually don't put hot sauce because I don't like spicy food.
I don't know how to do it but you can find a lot of instruction online on Youtube and blogs. If you wish to do it by yourself in a little amount. You can cook rice and the slice of chicken together with the water that has turmeric powder. If you choose to make a lot. You must separate them.
I want to learn how to cook it someday and I will show you how to make it on my own. Watch out for it...
