Another famous cuisine in Thailand is the Tom Yum Pla or Spicy Thai Fish. This is a very common Thai dish and many restaurants offer this food in their menu. I like it but it is very spicy for me since I don't like spicy food. A little bit spicy is OK for me but this food even if you ask them if it is spicy. They will answer you not really spicy but the moment this soup is served. Oh! It is really spicy πfor me. It is also commonly served in many occasions like weddings, retirement party, birthday etc.
Do not believe them if they tell you, it is not spicy because the name itself means spicy. The main ingredients of this dish are chili, I think. If you don't like spicy food, don't order this Tom Yum Pla. Whenever I have this on the table, I only get the fish and the mushrooms. I left the soup. Usually, it has Pla Kapong, it is a famous fish in Thailand. I like the Pla Kapong but not the Tom Yum Pla dish. Pla Kapong means Barramundi in English.
There is also Tom Yum Kong, it has shrimps instead of fish. "Kong" means shrimp in English. The Tom Yum Moo, it has pork instead on Fish. "Moo" means pork in English. But I haven't seen Tom Yum Kai π. " Kai" means chicken in English. I don't know if they have Tom Yum Kai.
Before you come here in Thailand, make sure you familiarize the name of some common Thai dish. Some restaurants here don't have English translations on their menu. Most of the time, It is so hard to communicate with the waiters in the restaurant. Although you might like it if you like spicy food but for me, I don't like it.
