I always love fried rice and I love it more since I learn how to cook this in a Thai version. Fried rice or Khao Pad is a famous dish in Thailand. Many small and medium size restaurant offers this on their menu and some of them can't speak English well. Mostly, small restaurant has only Thai language in their menu. So you must familiarize some Thai dishes to be able to ask them what you want to eat.
They probably won't understand you if ask for a serving of fried rice. You should tell them "Aw Khao Pad" means you want fried rice or "Mi kha pad mai" if you wan't to ask if they have khao pad.
Khao Pad is a Thai version of fried rice. "Khao" means rice and "Pad" means fried or stir-fry. They added more vegetables and seasonings than ordinary fried rice. Mostly, they added carrots, corn, green peas on it. As for me, I love khao pad with kale on it.

Khao Pad Kai |
When you ask for a khao pad, they probably ask what kind of khao pad. Khao Pad Gai is fried rice with egg because "Gai" in English means egg. Khao Pad Kai means fried rice with chicken. "Kai" means chicken in Thai language. Khao Pad Kong means fried rice with shrimp. "Kong" means shrimp. They also have Khao Pad Moo. It's fried rice with pork meat. "Moo" means pork in Thai. Khao Pad Kra Pao means Khao Pad with beef.
Choose whichever your favorite Khao Pad above. I just ate the Khao Pad Gai and Khao Pad Kai and they taste really good. Whenever I go to a small restaurant or stall and I can't read their menu. I ask them if they have Khao Pad. It costs 40 to 50 baht in an ordinary restaurant. In a fancy restaurant, it's more than 60 baht.
