Visiting a chocolate museum is probably everyone’s dream. For us, we only knew it existed during our last day in Penang, Malaysia so we aren’t that prepared and didn’t do our research before going there. Locating the museum is easy. We only used a map to navigate. The only downside is, a lot of buildings surround the chocolate museum so you might want to check every corner.
The Penang 3D Chocolate Museum is located at George Town, 30, Lebuh Light,10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. For Google map click here. If you want to inquire, you can call them at +60 4-261 0118. It's open every day from 10:00 o'clock in the morning to 8:00 o'clock in the evening. The entrance is free of charge.
Upon entering, you will be welcomed by one of the staffs wearing a chef’s uniform. You will instantly receive a sticker making you feel exclusive. The staff said it is for everyone who visits the museum. When we entered the museum, it isn’t what I expected it to be. We are not allowed to record so we didn’t have single footage. It just looks like your average souvenir shop where you can buy goods from your home country-except everything are chocolates.
A staff approached us and introduced the first set of chocolates. They made us taste every chocolate there is. We were overwhelmed. They told us about how the chocolates were produced and the history of chocolate. The experience was fun but somehow uncomfortable because we felt the pressure to buy something because of how hospitable and generous the staffs are. This is probably their strategy to make customers buy even a single product from the museum.
Aside from chocolates, they also sell coffee of different intensities. They will also make you taste it and frankly speaking, it just tastes like a regular instant coffee you can buy at any vending machine. The packaging was on point though. One thing is that their chocolates are also pricey. We bought their chocolate for 35 Malaysian Ringgit with 80% cocoa and it tasted okay. Every chocolate they had tasted generic and not really different from local chocolates you can buy.
Overall, the experience was fun but make sure you don’t spend a penny because money-wise, the quantity of what you can get based on the money you paid for isn’t worth it.
