Wat Phra Yai or Big Buddha is the most famous temple in Kho Samui. The main attraction of this place is the huge Buddha in the middle of a small island. It is located at 4171, Tambon Bo Put, Amphoe Ko Samui, Chang Wat Surat Thani Thailand. For Google map click here. It's open 24 hours daily. The entrance and the parking lot is free but you can give donations.
The temple is quite big and a lot of people visit here but it's not really a crowded place. Though they have a lot of visitors or tourists here unlike Wat Plai Laem which is just a few kilometers away from the Big Buddha. Many Buddhist believers come here to visit and offer a prayer. As for us, we are here for picture taking and sight-seeing. The temple grounds offer an insight into Thai and Buddhism culture and a lot of Buddha relics.
I didn't get closer to the Big Buddha because I don't want to climb up in the stairs since I didn't come here to pray I just watch it from afar. I've seen a lot people take the stairs to come closer to the Big Buddha. You must leave your slippers, sandals, and shoes below the stairs if you want to go up.
There are a lot of shops around if you want to buy refreshing drinks or snacks. There are also souvenir shops in front of and around the temple premises. This souvenir toy shop that is made of metal and steel caught my attention. It is located in front of the Big Buddha. The display is awesome but you can't take a photo with it so I just take a photo from outside.
We came here late in the afternoon around 5 o'clock and I think it's the best time to come here or maybe early in the morning to avoid the heat of the sun.
