Everything you need to know about Chiang Mai Train Station if your planning to go to Chiang Mai. This Train Station is the last station in the northwest of Thailand. It's located at Wat Ket, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai. For Google Map click here. The station is quite big and clean. You can't stay here overnight. The staff at the ticket booth are kind and very accommodating. They also speak English well.

We traveled 18 hours from Bangkok Train Station. The first thing we want to find when arriving in Chiang Mai is the motorcycle rental. We want to rent a motorcycle from here so we won't ride a taxi from here. I list down some Frequently Asked Questions about Chiang Mai Train Station.

1. Is there are motorcycle rental at Chiang Mai Train Station?

Yes, there is a motorcycle for rent in Chiang Mai Train Station. You can rent it for 200 baht per day. You can return it at the same time you rented the motorcycle. You won't pay extra amount if you return it past 15 minutes of your return time but You will have to pay an additional 50 baht for more than 15 minutes late. I paid a fine of 50 baht for 20 minutes late. The traffic was quite bad at that time so we failed to return it on time. The staff speaks English well and very accommodating. They will explain to the rules and regulations when renting a motorcycle. Make sure to take a photo on every part of the motorcycle before leaving the rental shop

If you want a cheaper one, try to contact this number below. I just took a photo of it's a sticker on the motorcycle when we visited at Doin Intanon National Park. But I haven't tried its services yet because I already paid two days rental on our motorcycle. Maybe I will try to call this rental shop when visiting Chiang Mai again.

2. Is there a food shop nearby?

You can find a food shop inside the train station. They offered western food, Thai food, and vegetarian food. We like to eat at this place, sometimes we even come here just to eat vegetarian dishes since we didn't know much about Chaing Mai restaurants. The food tastes good and it matches our appetite and the food is not expensive. We like to eat noodles, like Pad Thai or fried noodles and my husband likes Pad Pak Ruam with rice or Mix Vegetables with rice. It's only cost 50 baht per serving. Beverages and burgers are available also. The shop will close at 9 in the evening and open early in the morning. This restaurant offers a mini-mart and souvenir shop also.

3. Is there an ATM Machine?

Yes, there is an ATM machine inside the Chiang Mai Train Station but I only saw the KTB (Krung Thai Bank) ATM Machine. If your card is a VISA then you won't have a problem withdrawing some cash. You can also use this ATM machine if your card wasn't issued by Krung Thai Bank. You won't have a problem maybe but you might pay additional charges.

4. Can I take a shower in the bathroom?

There is a toilet in Chiang Mai Train Station but you have to pay 3 baht for using it. If you would like to take a shower, you have to pay 15 baht.

5. Is there a waiting area?

Yes, there is a waiting area and you can even sleep here but not overnight. The waiting area has a free charging station. You might need to bring extension wire because sometimes the plugs at the charging station are full. Bringing food here is allowed also. If you can read Thai, there are free books for you to read.
