Songkhla Regional Observatory For Public

Friday, January 17, 2020

In the year 2019, the Songkhla Regional Observatory was finally open for the public. It is located at Khao Rup Chang, Mueang Songkhla District, Songkhla. For Google Map click here or call their number 074 300 868 for more inquiriesSince it's newly open, I and my husband wanted to check it out. The place is situated at the top of the mountain an overlooking view of the city of Songkhla, Songkhla Lake, and Songkhla Beach.

Be careful in going up to the mountain because the road is steep and not so wide. A car and a motorcycle can reach the top but a double-decker bus might not. The place is quite big with wide parking spaces for cars and motorcycles. Getting inside is free no entrance fee.

This place is a learning place for Thai students, for us foreigners that can't read and speak Thai, you won't be able to learn or understand most of the things here but you can just go sight-seeing. They displayed some things that have a connection in science mostly about Universe or Outerspace.

They have a planetarium with a big screen where people can watch about the details in the Universe. The entrance is 50 baht and the show will take an hour. We weren't able to check what's inside because we were told that the video is in the Thai language. We won't be able to understand it anyway, so, we decided not to go inside and just roam around.  A souvenir shop is also inside the planetarium.

The weather is so hot that day, so you better take an umbrella or hat to cover yourself. There's a cafe inside where you can drink your favorite coffee or milk tea and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Songkhla City. Even though you won't get knowledge here since they are all in Thai language, I can assure you that you will be able to enjoy the place. It's good for taking photos and go sight-seeing.
